Missing teeth over a period of time will cause your jawbone to atrophy or shrink in size. This loss of bone starts immediately after the extraction of a tooth and can be quite significant in as little as six months after loss of a tooth. Once this shrinkage occurs, the results are poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for the placement of dental implants as well as long-term shifting of remaining teeth and changes to facial structure.
